The Sodor Search and Rescue Centre is the rescue administration on Sodor and the home of Harold, Rocky, Captain, Butch, Belle and Flynn. It is located along the coast south of Maron and east of Suddery on the Main Line Loop.

History

The Sodor Search and Rescue Centre was constructed to provide a central hub for emergency services on Sodor. The centre's main building is dual level, with railway tracks leading into an engine shed underneath and a ramp providing road access to a garage on the top level. Along the shore are a boathouse for Captain and a heliport for Harold. Nearby the rescue centre is an underwater tunnel which leads to Misty Island.

The rescue centre is constructed out of Jobi Wood, which was imported from Japan. After Diesel accidentally pushed some flatbeds of Jobi Wood into the sea, the centre's construction was delayed. The project was eventually finished after the discovery that Jobi Trees grew on Misty Island, with the nearby tunnel being re-opened to allow trains to transport wood to the rescue centre.

When it first opened, the rescue centre became the new home for Harold, Rocky, Captain and Butch. These four were later joined by Belle and Flynn, who were brought to the Island of Sodor to help with fighting fires.

Trivia

  • One of the signs on the main Search and Rescue Centre building features an ambulance, a fire engine, the company logo and Rocky. The road vehicles in the sign are based on those used in the Model Series.
  • In the nineteenth series episode, Wild Water Rescue, the team celebrated their one-thousandth rescue.
  • Harold is the only member of the Search and Rescue team who:
  • Captain is the first member of the team introduced to not have originally appeared in model form.
  • In the episodes animated by Nitrogen Studios, the rescue centre has different engines assigned to it from time to time, known engines including Thomas, Edward, James, and Toby. During the Big World! Big Adventures! rebrand, Thomas, Edward and Emily still appear to be the go-to engines for emergencies aside from the main rescue vehicles at the centre.
  • The Search and Rescue Centre's siren reuses Big Mickey's siren from Tugs.
