Sony Group Corporation (Japanese: ソニーグループ株式会社), commonly known as simply Sony (Japanese: ソニー), is a Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, Japan, excluding books and VHS. Many divisions of the company have been associated with Thomas & Friends.

Sony Creative Products Inc. has been the copyright management of Thomas & Friends in Japan since October 1991. In 2008, the company began producing the Japanese dub of the Thomas & Friends television series.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released the feature film Thomas and the Magic Railroad on VHS and DVD a few months after it was released to theaters as the film's distributor Destination Films was a division of Sony Pictures.

Sony Music Entertainment is the owner of the German label Europa, who distributed DVDs and CDs in Germany from 2004 to 2018. They have distributed some Thomas & Friends DVDs.

Some Thomas & Friends video games have been released on consoles of Sony's video gaming brand, PlayStation. Video games Thomas the Tank Engine and Oshaberi Oekaki Kikansha Thomas to Nakamatachi have been released on the PlayStation 1 exclusively in Japan. Video game A Day at the Races was released on the PlayStation 2 exclusively in Europe and Oceania. A planned PlayStation 1 video game was scheduled for a 1999 release date but was cancelled for unknown reasons.
