Speedster Sandy is a magazine story illustrated using images from the All Engines Go series.
Plot[]
Every engine on Sodor knows Kana is very fast and can beat any engine who challenges her to a race. Following yet another victory against Thomas, Percy, Nia and Diesel, Kana wishes someone could beat her as it would make racing much more fun. Sandy offers to race Kana if she can choose the route. Kana agrees and Sandy sets off as fast as she can, determined to win the race.
Just as Sandy is congratulating herself for losing sight of her opponent, Kana zooms straight past her leaving Sandy spinning. But Sandy isn't beaten yet as she had chosen a route that she knew would be tricky for Kana. The route has lots of bends which bigger engines have to slow down for. There are also obstacles to dodge, like giant boulders in Crumble Canyon. Sandy is small and nimble enough to jump on top of them and get a speed boost.
Eventually, the racers get to the mine which Sandy knows well. Kana on the other hand, soon gets lost. Kana has to turn on her lights which starts to drain her battery. Sandy thinks she has gotten ahead of Kana and is only a little way from the finish line, but Kana comes speeding past her once again. Just as she's overtaken, Kana's battery indicator starts to flash; she is running out of power and starting to slow down.
It is very close, but Sandy just manages to cross the line in front of Kana who is extremely impressed. Sandy had used all her strength, smarts, size and skills to beat her. Both engines agree they'd had tremendous fun racing each other and Sandy tows Kana to the charging station.
