St. Pedroc's Dairy[1] is an industry in Elsbridge, situated alongside Thomas' Branch Line.

History[]

St. Pedroc's Dairy is the town's largest employer, situated in what was once a glebe field behind the Vicarage and adjacent to the station. The Dairy has won fame for its Callan Cheese and Elsdale butter, the latter being made from the milk of cows pastured in the rich water-meadows along the upper reaches of the River Els.[1]

Milk is delivered here by rail every morning from Ffarquhar. Originally, Thomas exclusively took the milk with his first train, however since their arrivals, Percy and Daisy have also been given the job.[2] The dairy is also where Wilbert accidentally filled up his water tank with milk in 1993.[3]

Trivia[]

  • In Foaming at the Funnel, the dairy is incorrectly stated to be at Toryreck instead of Elsbridge.
  • The Rev. W. Awdry originally planned to feature St. Pedroc's Dairy on his Ffarquhar Branch Mk2 layout - as part of a scenic section to Elsbridge - but this plan was dropped in favour of a much simpler corner piece depicting the Hackenbeck river and tunnel.
