Thistledown was built in 1903 by Aveling & Porter. It was owned by the late Teddy Boston and formerly on view at The Old Rectory, Cadeby, Leics.[1] Thistledown will participate at the Talyllyn Railway's Awdry Extravaganza event in 2025 under the guise of George.

Thistledown is painted dark green with brass and red boiler bands and a brass chimney cap.

- Thistledown was the inspiration for George, a fictional character created by the Rev. W. Awdry for The Railway Series.

Satan[]
Satan is an Aveling & Porter R10 steamroller once owned by The Fat Clergyman.

Real-life History[]
Satan was built in 1903 by Aveling & Porter. It was previously owned by the late Teddy Boston[2]. By 1980, it was in possession of Steve Arrowsmith, the former president of the Road Roller Association.[3]

Satan is painted greenish black all over with gold boiler bands and black lining.

Another steamroller illustrated by John T. Kenney.
- The collision between George and Sir Handel in the story "Steam Roller" was based on an event that took place in Muskerry, County Cork, Ireland in 1927.
- Interestingly, prior to becoming an illustrator for The Railway Series, John T. Kenney, illustrated a steamroller similar to George named Stumbles the Steamroller for the Ladybird book, Tootles the Taxi and Other Rhymes.
