This page is for the Steamships that have appeared in The Railway Series.

Notable Steamships[]

The following Steamships have their own separate pages:

P.S. Cumberland Road[]

P.S. Cumberland Road was a paddle steamer from the Mainland.

After Skarloey was built in Whitehaven, P.S. Cumberland Road took him down the Irish Sea and around the Isle of Man to Kirk Ronan Harbour on Sodor. As there were no cranes at the harbour to lift Skarloey out, the steamer's derricks were used instead.

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

P.S. Cumberland Road's exact basis is unknown, however it strongly resembles RMS Britannia (1840).

Livery[]

P.S. Cumberland Road has a dull brown hull, a cream superstructure, white and light orange paddles-wheel covers, and a tan funnel. The paddle steamer has a mermaid figurehead on its bow, and has the cream nameplate reading "CUMBERLAND ROAD" in black lettering. It flies the Red Ensign flag of the United Kingdom.

Other Steamers[]

Several other steamers have been mentioned in The Railway Series.

According to The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways, the Sodor and Mainland Railway had hoped to start a steamer service from Kirk Ronan to Dublin. This project failed, but the Crovan's Gate Mining Company used the harbour extensively for the shipment of ore.

On the Mid Sodor Railway's Boat Train ran in conjunction with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company's steamers from Douglas and Ramsey. They would meet at Arlesburgh Harbour, providing passenger services and exporting produce from mines in the Arlesdale Valley.
