"Next time you should make fuel out of something that smells yummy. Like recycled cookies!"
― Thomas to Whiff

Stink Monster is a magazine story illustrated using images from the All Engines Go series.

Plot[]

It is Beach Clean-Up Day on the Island of Sodor and the engines are heading to see Whiff before going to the beach. When the engines arrive at the Recycling Plant, there is no sign of Whiff. Suddenly, with a loud bang, Whiff emerges from a shed in a cloud of smoke. Whiff explains that the engines have caught him working on his latest invention: the Vroom 3000, but the engines can't see it yet.

The engines are disappointed that they can't look at the invention, but Whiff promises to show them later. At the beach, they start picking up rubbish. Soon, they've finished and, on their way back, the engines come across a nasty smell. The engines puff as fast as they can away from the stench, but it won't go away. They finally find the source of the foul smell on the suspension bridge: a huge, smelly cloud of smell! Percy calls out that it is a Stink Monster and tells everyone to run away. In their confusion to get away from the Stink Monster, Percy is thrown forward and is dragged away by the cloud of stink. The other engines chase after Percy, as the Stink Monster heads toward a tunnel. Nia then makes up a play to trap the Stink Monster in the tunnel.

Thomas switches the tracks to get the Stink Monster to go into the tunnel where Diesel and Carly are waiting to block the exit. Once the Stink Monster is trapped, Sandy uses her wind blower to waft away the stinky cloud, revealing Whiff. The engines are shocked, but Whiff explains that it had been his surprise. He had adapted his motor to burn recycled rubbish into fuel, but something had malfunctioned and he had lost control of his engine. Percy had gotten stuck on Whiff's jammed coupler, but Whiff couldn't tell him over all the noise. Sandy takes a look at Whiff's machine and soon it is fixed.

Back at the Recycling Plant, Whiff demonstrates how his invention works. Rubbish from the beach clean-up is put in and a huge stinky cloud is released. Thomas tells Whiff that, next time, he should make fuel out of something that smells yummy like recycled cookies.
