Tale of the Brave is a Golden Book based on the special of the same name.

Plot

Gigantic roving shadows and monster-size footprints test the engines’ bravery in a brand-new Thomas & Friends movie, Tale of the Brave. Adapted from the movie, this Little Golden Book will thrill train-obsessed little boys and girls ages 2 to 5.

  • The cover of The Fearsome Footprints was used for the Hebrew edition.
  • Victor appears in the book, but he does not appear in the special.
  • There are some differences between the book and the special:
    • When Thomas meets Bill, Ben and Timothy, he meets them at the shed and Timothy has no trucks.
    • Thomas is not pulling any trucks when he sees the footprints, the landslide is different and Bill and Ben do not push Thomas.
    • When the Fat Controller makes the annoucement about Bill and Ben's bravery, the engines are positioned differently.
    • The part where Porter runs away from the trucks is absent. And there is no fog when Gator arrives at the docks.
    • When Percy speaks to James, they are at the different location.
    • The part where James arrives at the scrapyard is different between the book and the film.
    • In the book, the part where James is pulling the Flying Kipper, the part where Thomas looks for Percy and him being loaded onto the ship all take place at daytime. But the special these scenes takes place at nighttime.
    • The Flying Kipper is different between the book and the film. In the book, there are two conflats right behind James, while in the special, there are two plank trucks behind him instead.
    • When James crashes, the fish flew high in the air until landing in the pond, but the special shows James crashing into the muddy pond before reaching the bridge.
    • In the book, Percy getting scared by the scrap monster happens differently.
    • The parts of the Fat Controller scolding Percy, Thomas saying sorry to Percy and Percy confronting Thomas about not believing him was omitted.
    • In the book, James is pulling the scrap heap truck. But in the special, he is pushing it. The book also shows Thomas without Annie and Clarabel when he pulls up alongside James.
    • In the book, when Percy puffs into the China Clay Pits to find the footprints and when James puffs alongside him, it is nighttime. But in the special, it is sunrise.
    • The book has the landslide with mud. But in the special, the landslide only has rocks.
    • Percy does not run away with James because of the landslide and he does not get derailed by it.
    • The book had Thomas carrying scientists, Sir Robert Norramby and the Fat Controller when they discovered the fossil. But the special shows Marion, Bill and Ben amazed of Percy when he discovered the fossil after the landslide.
    • Thomas, Percy and James do not go to the Town Hall for the display like they did in the special.

Goofs

  • There is a duplicate of the Bird Watcher at the unveiling of the dinosaur skeleton at the Town Hall.
  • Big Mickey is painted yellow instead of grey.
  • Percy is said to push James out of the landslide. But James is on the different track, meaning that he couldn't got stuck and he could've just reversed.
