The Brass Band is a magazine story.
Plot[]
One day, The Fat Controller informs the engines that the mayor is visiting and a brass band will play for him. The engines are soon cleaned and polished. James wishes he could play with the band but Thomas teases him.
It is Henry's job to collect the band from the harbour and the band's conductor jokes that he hopes Henry is strong enough to pull all of their instruments. When they reach the station, the conductor gives a shout of alarm; in their hurry, the band has left the wind instruments behind. The Fat Controller has an idea and states that the engines will fill in for them.
The engines soon arrive at the sheds. James is pleased the he now has a chance to play with the band but Gordon feels he is far too grand to be given such a task. The band stands in front of the engines and begin to play along with the engine's whistles as soon as the mayor arrives. He finds the music to be delightful and claps along. This makes the engines feel very proud and even Gordon changes his mind.
