The Disappearing Shovel! is a magazine story.
Plot[]
It is Autumn on the Island of Sodor and many colourful leaves lay on the ground. Edward's fireman arrives one morning and shows Edward a brand new shovel. Edward thinks the shovel is very smart. As Edward's driver has not arrived yet, the fireman props the shovel up against Edward and goes inside the shed to make some tea.
The fireman soon returns with the driver and is telling him about the new shovel. To their surprise, the shovel has disappeared! Edward claims he did not seen anyone come up and take it and wonders why someone would do such in the first place.
The Fat Controller arrives and wonders why Edward is not at work. The fireman explains about the shovel when suddenly, The Fat Controller bumps his foot on something burried underneath the Autumn leaves. To everyone's relief, the shovel is found among the leaves and Edward is quickly warmed up for work.
