The loop is a balloon loop located somewhere along the Main Line, likely near Tidmouth.
History[]
In 1925, Gordon was accidentally switched onto the loop while pulling the Express and was sent back to the station, where James took over his train.[1] Gordon later used the loop again - this time intentionally - to turn around when the weather was too windy for him to use the turntable at Tidmouth.[2]

Trivia[]
- Despite being mentioned twice in the books, the loop has not been indicated on any maps of Sodor and is not mentioned in The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways.
