The Lost Coach is a magazine story.
Plot[]
James has been working very hard. He makes his trucks behave and The Fat Controller is pleased with him. When James returns to the shed, he boasts to the others. In retaliation, Thomas boasts about his branch line while Gordon does the same regarding his and Henry's ability to pull the Express. James points out that Percy does not have anything worthwhile about him. Percy acknowledges that he is busy in the yard.
The next day, Henry's gears keep slipping into reverse which causes him to bump into one of Gordon's coaches that is waiting to be collected. The coach's brakes slip off and it begins to roll away. It does not stop until it comes to a siding further down the line. The coach is then surounded by trucks that Edward has shunted. Gordon learns he is one coach short and is very cross, as are The Fat Controller and his passengers.
In the afternoon, Percy goes to collect the trucks when he finds the coach and asks what it is doing there. The coach explains and Percy brings it back to the station. The Fat Controller is pleased and reminds the big engines just how useful Percy can be.
