The Mainland Engines

The Mainland Engines are engines who work on the Mainland. They told Charlie how much fun Thomas is and are presumably friends of Charlie.

Many of the engines on the North Western Railway originate from various railways on the Mainland.

It is unknown if these engines are owned by British Railways, the main standard gauge railway on the Mainland, or private companies.

Trivia

In the 2017 special, Journey Beyond Sodor, the engines that are seen at the Mainland Junction were created using the unmodified CGI models of Toby and Belle, albeit slightly obscured so as to appear to be unrecognisable. Flying Scotsman and Hiro were also seen here.
In the Great Race Friends Near and Far video, Etienne Visits London, the burgundy tender engine appears to be a rebuilt Bulleid Pacific, although it also bears a slight resemblance to Frieda (despite being a German engine).
