Trivia

  • Craig Carlisle was originally the sole writer of the special, however he was later joined by Daniel Share-Strom after it was decided to give Bruno a larger role.[2]
  • Prior to its release, this special's title was listed as both Mystery at Lookout Mountain and Mystery of Lookout Mountain. It is unknown whether these were working or alternative titles, or if these were simply misspellings.
  • This special marks the first of several things:
    • The first special to not introduce any new characters since Calling All Engines!. Although Darcy is semi-treated as one.
    • The first special in the franchise's history in which Henry and James do not make any physical appearances since their introductions. Although James is mentioned.
    • The first special in where Kenji, Riff, Jiff, Farona and Frederico do not appear since their introductions.
    • Darcy's first appearance since the twenty-third series episode, Deep Trouble and her first appearance in All Engines Go.
    • The first special in the franchise's history to not premiere theatrically in the UK.
    • The first US/Canadian DVD release special not to have any music on the main menu since the 2000 DVD, Thomas and the Magic Railroad.
    • The first special in the franchise's history to not feature any bonus features on the US/Canadian DVD release.
    • The first special to have Will Bhaneja as Diesel in the US dub.
    • The first special to have Tom Dussek as Sir Topham Hatt in the UK dub, not counting the re-dubbed version of Race for the Sodor Cup.
    • The first special since Day of the Diesels in the original series in where Annie and Clarabel do not appear.
    • Emily's first speaking role in a special since Big World! Big Adventures! and her first speaking role in an All Engines Go special.
    • Whiff's first appearance in a special since Journey Beyond Sodor, his first appearance in an All Engines Go special and his first speaking role in a special since Misty Island Rescue.
    • Bruno and Darcy's first appearances in a special.
  • This is the last special to have Meesha Contreras as Thomas in the US dub.
  • Dana Puddicombe and Jessica Carroll join the voice cast, not counting the re-dubbed UK version of Race for the Sodor Cup for the latter person.
  • Due to Meesha Contreras undergoing puberty while recording his lines in the production phase, Thomas' voice is slightly pitched up in some scenes.
  • In the second series episode, Kana Recharges, the flag that represents the Biggest Adventure Club is present onwards. Chronologically speaking, the movie takes place sometime in between Blackout! and former said episode.
  • This movie was originally scheduled to be released in select US theaters on 4th and 5th March 2023, hosted by Fathom Events, however, these events were cancelled for unknown reasons.
  • Carly and Sandy's line, "Have no fear! Sandy and Carly can make your problems disappear!" is reused from the first series episode, Thomas Blasts Off.
  • To promote the special's US premiere, a mini-series called Sodor Mystery was released on the official YouTube channel.
  • This special was released in April in the US to tie in with autism awareness month, due to it marking Bruno's first appearance in a special.[3]
  • This movie was awarded in 2024 for the Canadian Screen Awards for Best Original Music.[4]

Goofs

  • In the Latin-American Spanish dub, the special is titled "The Mystery of the Mountain Lookout".
  • When Thomas turns around while testing his new gear, his buffers briefly disappear.
  • When Whiff bursts out of his laboratory, his number is backwards.
  • In a few shots of the first song, some of the characters are missing:
    • In the shot before they enter the tunnel at the end of the first chorus, Nia, Diesel, Carly, Sandy and Bruno are all missing.
    • In the reused shot of Thomas, Percy, Nia and Kana during the second chorus, Bruno is missing behind Thomas.
  • In the scene where Thomas collects Bruno so he could take a break, his headlight is missing.
  • In one frame when Percy says, "Maybe there is a connection," a large chunk of Bruno's body disappears.
  • In some of the captions for the Treehouse airing, Kana is mistakenly referred to as Connor, despite Connor not appearing in All Engines Go.
  • Darcy is missing her front window in a few shots when she and the Biggest Adventure Club are exchanging introductions.
  • When Bruno talks to Emily and Sir Topham Hatt, Emily's front wheels are missing.
  • When Thomas tells Whiff why Darcy came to the Recycling Plant, his bunker is missing.
  • Neil Crone and Will Harrison-Wallace are not credited for voicing Gordon in the credits for the US and UK dubs, respectively.
  • In the Sky TV page, the promo from the original series episode, No Help at All is mistakenly shown, and the title says that the special was made in 2020.
  • When Bruno turns off his light, there is no sound. However, everyone else has a sound when their headlights turn off.
