The Rescue is a magazine story. The first part of this story is titled Diesel Takes a Tumble.

Plot[]

Diesel has fallen off the rails into a ditch and vows to get back at the trucks for causing his accident. A mobile crane has been sent to rescue Diesel and Edward is brought in to move the trucks out of the way.

Chains and leather straps are attached to Diesel and the crane begins lifting him. Diesel keeps grumbling during the process and the trucks laugh at him. Suddenly, the crane stalls and the operator claims Diesel is too heavy for it.

Diesel grows even more frustrated while the trucks are glad, since Diesel can not bump them from up in the air. Diesel pleads that he will be a Really Useful Engine if he is lowered onto the tracks. The crane gets repaired and Diesel is lowered. He is good to his word and treats the trucks carefully for the rest of the day.
