The Viaduct is a large two-track viaduct that carries the Main Line over a river.

History

The viaduct was once under repairs, as the arches needed to be strengthened. Sir Topham Hatt did not want to close the railway during the repairs, so the work took a long time. Any engine crossing the viaduct had to cross it slowly and carefully to prevent it from collapsing under them. The repairs caused delays for the Main Line engines, such as Henry and James.

While crossing the viaduct, Gordon lost his dome to the river due to the strong winds.

The viaduct is not to be confused with the Big Dipper, the Valley Viaduct, Callan Viaduct, Hawin Lake Viaduct or the Mainland Viaduct.

Trivia

• On the David Mitton's maps of Sodor, the Viaduct is placed just west of Wellsworth, crossing the River Merry. Sam Wilkinson's later map of Sodor places it west of Cronk crossing the Hawin Ab, as it did in The Railway Series, with its original place from the 1991 map being taken by the Sodor Suspension Bridge.
