The "Weedkiller" is a special wagon used on the Skarloey Railway for removing weeds growing in the track.
Biography[]
It consists of a flat truck with a large tanker attached on top of it and a pipe which hangs across the line behind the truck's rear buffers. The pipes are designed to spray weed-killing liquid across the track.
The truck is used on a special maintenance train pulled by Rusty or Fred once a year. Rusty does not enjoy the work, even believing Fred was playing sick to stay out of it.
Technical Details[]
Basis[]
The Weedkiller is based on the Talyllyn Railway's No. 19 flat wagon which, for a time, was fitted with a 120 gallon weedkiller tank. The wagon was built out of the remains of the Talyllyn Railway's original No. 5 locomotive The Lawnmower.
Unlike its basis, the Skarloey Railway's example is illustrated as having one large tank rather than two smaller ones, handrails on each side, a raised cover and triangular supports.
Livery[]
The Weedkiller truck is painted black, with a yellow tank on top. There is a red warning symbol on each side of the tank.
