The Thomas & Friends theme music plays during the opening and closing credits of all episodes and most Home Video Releases. Throughout the years, it has had several versions written by different composers.

Original Theme (Series 1-7)

Mike O'Donnell and Junior Campbell	Series 1-7	The original opening theme of the series. This 30-second variant plays during the opening credits of most Series 1-7 episodes and music videos as well as some nameboards.
	Series 1-3	The original full closing theme of the series. This 40-second variant plays before and during the closing credits of most Series 1 and Series 2 episodes, as well as the Series 3 episode Mavis. The theme's intro is usually cut off or overlapped by narration and sound effects, except in some episodes like The Sad Story of Henry.
	Series 1-7	The original closing theme of the series without the intro. This 30-second variant plays during the closing credits of some Series 1-2 episodes and all Series 3-7 episodes except for Mavis, as well as most nameboards.
	Series 6-7 Music Videos	A shortened version of the closing theme plays during the closing credits of music videos from Series 6 and 7.
	N/A	A full version of the theme, over 2 minutes long, is featured on the Best of Thomas US/Canadian DVD menus. Shortened versions were released on other DVD menus but Best of Thomas is the only one to feature the full theme.
	N/A	A 20-second remix of the theme that adds more bass and record scratches. It was used in videos by the Thomas & Friends UK YouTube channel in 2019 and 2020, in place of the original closing credits of Series 1-12 episodes.

Greek Theme

Mike O'Donnell and Junior Campbell	Series 1-5, 8-10			The Greek dubs of Series 1-5 and 8-10 have the original opening theme pitched down with lyrics sung by Anastasía Goútou. This theme was used for both the opening and closing credits. Greece is the only country that added lyrics to the original theme. The earliest Greek VHS releases feature the instrumental theme music, with the version with lyrics debuting in 2003.

Trivia

Mike O'Donnell stated in an interview that, after he and Junior Campbell were approached about writing music for the TV series, they produced three demos; one ended up as the Series 1-7 opening theme, another became Edward's Series 1 theme and the third became Toby's Series 1 theme.
The theme was recorded at Ringo Starr's home studio in 1983.
Thomas' theme from Series 1-7 is based in part on the original theme music.
A portion of the musical score of Thomas and the Trucks is based largely on the original theme music.
Some German episodes feature the closing credits theme variant during the opening credits.

		Series 8	CiTV airings of Series 8 featured this opening theme. It was also featured on some US/Canadian DVD menus.
		Series 8	This theme plays during the ending credits of Series 8 episodes.
		Series 9-11	This theme plays during the ending credits of Series 9-11 episodes.
		Series 11-12	This theme, featuring the final chorus of the Engine Roll Call, complete with lyrics, plays during the opening credits of Series 11-12 episodes and The Great Discovery.
		Series 11-12	An instrumental version of the Series 11-12 opening theme is featured on the Welcome to Sodor Island Tour! Japanese DVD.
		Series 12-18	This theme plays during the ending credits of Series 12-18 episodes.
		Series 13-18	This theme, mostly the same as the Series 11-12 opening theme apart from mixing and sound effects, plays during the opening credits of all Series 13-18 episodes.
		Series 13-18	An instrumental version of the Series 13-18 opening theme was featured on some DVD menus and international dubs.
2	Ed Welch Eggplant LF	Series 19-21	A re-recorded version of the Engine Roll Call opening music debuted in Series 19.
