Thomas the Tank Engine Wiki

Things That Go Bump is a magazine story.

Plot[]

One night, Henry is feeling restless; all of the other engines are asleep but he keeps hearing a strange bumping noise. Henry wonders if it is a ghost but then recalls the time Percy pretended to be one. Despite reminding himself that ghosts are not real, he wonders if it is someone trying to break in.

Henry is very tired by morning and his joints are also feel very stiff. When Henry tells the other engines about the strange sounds, they just laugh. Henry is not in the mood to work at all and works very slowly, making The Fat Controller cross. Henry gets his joints greased and this helps a bit but he still feels tired.

Henry, once again, stays awake hearing the strange sounds at night but this time, he calls out for help. Edward, who is next to Henry, wakes up and hears the sounds too. The Fat Controller is informed in the morning and sends workmen to investigate. The workmen return and explain that a family of bats are roosting in the shed. Henry is no longer scared and says the bats can keep him company on sleepless nights.
