"This is an emergency!"
― Thomas

Thomas' Animal Ark is a magazine story released as part of the "Classic Thomas Story Collection" series and illustrated using images from the television series.

Plot[]

It is very cold on the Island of Sodor and everything is starting to freeze. Thomas puffs along the slippery rails to the Animal Park where he meets Headkeeper Jack. The zookeeper tells Thomas that the park's boiler has broken and he has been waiting all day for Emily to deliver a new one from Brendam Docks. The animals at the park really need heating to stay warm in the snowy weather. Thomas decides to go to the docks and locate Emily.

When Thomas arrives at the docks, he soon finds Emily, but there is no sign of Jack's new boiler. Carly tells them that she doesn't know when the delivery will arrive as the snow is causing a great deal of delays. Thomas is very worried about the animals and goes to find Sir Topham Hatt.

Thomas tells Sir Topham about the poor animals. Sir Topham Hatt knows just the place where the animals can stay warm and instructs Thomas to take them to the Sodor Steamworks. So, Thomas gathers up all the empty trucks he can find and collects the animals from the Animal Park. Unfortunately, the ice on the tracks is slippery and the animals in Thomas' trucks are very heavy. Thomas' wheels slip, causing him to crash into a snowdrift. Luckily, the strong elephants help to push him back onto the rails. As it is getting dark, Thomas decides to take the animals to the engine sheds instead as the sheds are closer than the Steamworks.

When Thomas chuffs up to the sheds, the other engines and Sir Topham Hatt are very surprised indeed. Thomas explains that he couldn't make it to the Steamworks and suggests he and all his friends can keep the animals warm with their boilers overnight. Luckily, Sir Topham Hatt thinks this is a very good idea.
