- "And I got to deliver something important after all."
"Oh. You mean like your battery?"
"No. I mean the nosecone!"
"Thomas, the rocket can't take off without your battery. It powers everything."
"Wow. That is important."
"Every piece is important." - ― Thomas and Cranky
Thomas Blasts Off is the second episode of the first series of Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go.
Plot
Thomas whooshes out of the shed excited, pretending to be a rocket. The other engines ask him what he is doing, and he tells them that it is the day of the important rocket launch at Brendam Docks. Very excited, the five friends all blast off to Knapford Station to see the rocket. They are upset to find it in pieces and think it has fallen apart. Luckily, Gordon corrects them by explaining that the rocket is too big to deliver to the docks whole and must be delivered in parts. Thomas really wants to carry the biggest and most important part. But while Gordon gets the nose cone, Nia gets the shell, Kana gets the rocket booster, Percy gets the satellite and Diesel gets to take the wings, Thomas is out of luck, having to deliver the rocket's battery, which he deems a small, unimportant part. But there is no time to argue, as a storm is on the horizon and the rocket must be finished before rainfall or the launch will have to be cancelled. Despite Gordon and Percy's attempts at convincing, Thomas ditches his job and helps Nia make it around the Funnel Tunnel with her large shell instead and even offers to help Percy.
Thomas, Nia, and Percy make it to Brendam Docks with the shell and satellite, where Cranky complains about Thomas not having the battery, prompting the little tank engine to rush back to Knapford and get it. On the way back, however, Thomas gets distracted by helping Kana and her rocket booster out of the mud. He helps push her all the way to the docks, where Cranky complains once more that he also ordered a rocket battery, not just a booster. Thomas heads off back to Knapford just as Diesel arrives with the wings. On his way back, Thomas stops to find that Gordon is trapped by a fallen tree that landed in between his tender and flatbed. Luckily, Carly and Sandy arrive right on cue to clear away the tree. Then, Sandy points out that Gordon's coupling is broken, and with the storm getting closer, Gordon asks Thomas if he could deliver the nose cone to the docks for him, to which Thomas agrees.
By nightfall, Thomas, Gordon, Carly and Sandy arrive at the docks with the nose cone. Thomas proudly proclaims that he got to pull something important after all, only for Cranky to explain that the battery was important too and that it powers the whole rocket. Without it, the launch cannot go on. Feeling bad, Thomas rushes off to finally fetch the battery. He gets a little speed boost from Kana as a "thank you" for helping her out of the mud earlier. With the extra speed, Thomas leaps off the hill and goes soaring across the sky, making it to Knapford in record time. With the battery hooked up behind, he rushes back to the docks, but on his way down the hill, a rockslide of ‘moon rocks’ trips him up and he comes in for a rather rough landing. Luckily, the battery lands into the rocket, and after a sped-up launch countdown thanks to Kana's rapid button pressing, the rocket is launched just in time. Everyone cheers and Thomas is happy, having learned that every job is important, even something as small as a battery.
