Thomas Comes to Breakfast, later lengthened to Thomas Comes to Breakfast and Other Thomas Adventures, is a US and Canadian VHS/DVD featuring two first series episodes and six second series episodes narrated by George Carlin. This is distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004 and was released on DVD in 2006 with a song included. It was re-released on DVD in 2009 by Lionsgate with some releases titled Pop Goes the Diesel. It was released as The Earliest Adventures of Thomas in 2007 for Brazilian audiences and was released as The Visit of Thomas in 2008 for Mexican audiences.

Description

PEEP! PEEP! Thomas, Duck, Sir Topham Hatt and their friends have learned many lessons about behaving well together. They have selected their favorite stories to create this collection about the importance of good behavior.

Come along as Thomas shows off and finds himself an unwelcome guest in the stationmaster's house. See what happens when Diesel decides to make trouble between Duck and the other engines, and when Gordon tries sabotage -- and gets more than he bargained for! Climb aboard for these exciting tales from the Island of Sodor.

  • This video marked the first of three things:
  • This VHS/DVD was awarded a 1999 Parent's Guide to Children's Media Inc. award.
  • Some 2000 copies of this VHS were released with each episode having their own individual opening and closing credits, as well as UK titles with US narrations. Some of the second series episodes have their end credits taken from Duck Takes Charge.
  • After Trouble in the Shed, the credits from the Strand Home Video release of Better Late than Never and Other Stories are used.
  • 2000 HGV Video Productions Canadian VHS releases have an echoed soundtrack.
  • This is the only US DVD to feature Thomas Comes to Breakfast, Pop Goes the Diesel, A Close Shave for Duck, Double Trouble and A Cow on the Line.
  • On the front cover of the 2009 release, an image from The World's Strongest Engine is used.
  • On the Brazilian DVD, the episodes can be viewed in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
  • The Starz version does not feature any nameboards, includes different title cards, gives A Close Shave for Duck its UK title and calls Double Trouble "Double Take".
  • On the front cover of the DVD and 2000 VHS release, an image from the third series episode, Trust Thomas is used.

Goofs

  • 1998 Canadian VHS copies distributed by HGV Video Productions have no narration for the entirety of the VHS, only music and sound effects.
  • On the front cover of the original release, Tidmouth's canopy roof is missing.
  • The last few seconds of some episodes on the US, Canadian, Latin American and Brazilian DVDs are cut off.
  • On the Kmart exclusive version, there is a slight glitch during the scene when Gordon is woken up by his driver to take the special goods train. This is not present in other releases.
  • On the front cover of the 2000 VHS and 2006 DVD, the rails leading away from the jetty are not edited out properly. This is also the case on the disc artwork for the 2006 DVD.
  • On the back cover of the 2000 VHS and both DVD releases, the image of Henry on the bridge is mirrored.
  • Emily, Bertie and Cranky are shown on the back cover of the Latin American/Chilean DVD, but they do not appear in any episodes and Cranky was not introduced until the fifth series and Emily was not introduced until the seventh series.
  • A technical glitch occurs during the nameboard intermissions for A Close Shave for Duck and Double Trouble by showing Trevor before transitioning to either Edward or Bertie.
