- The story is set on the Ōigawa Railway, which is home to real engines replicating Thomas, James, Percy, Hiro, Rusty and Toby at Day Out with Thomas events.
- Shogo Asakura, IP marketing producer at Sony Creative Products, told a radio programme that the book was inspired by Hiro's last line in Kenji on the Rails Again: "Promise me, Thomas, you'll come to Japan one day!"
