Thomas Goes Fishing is a magazine story based on the episode of the same name from the first series of the television series.
Plot[]
As Thomas puffs along his branch line, he often sees people fishing in the river. Thomas wishes to go fishing, but he is dismissed by the other engines who say that engines don't go fishing. The next day, when the water tower is out of order, Thomas has to go and get water from the river. His crew have to refill his tanks with water from the river by using a bucket with five holes. It takes a while, but Thomas' tank is filled to the brim with water at last.
But soon after setting off again, Thomas begins feeling ill, his boiler pressure shoots up and feels like he is going to burst. He is moved into a siding away from his coaches and danger signs are placed around him. An inspector arrives along with the Fat Controller and checks his tanks - only to find fish inside! As it turns out, the fish got in when his crew used the bucket to get water from the river. Everyone takes turns fishing in Thomas' water tank until they are all gone, the fish are then cooked and everyone has a delicious plate of fish and chips. Now, Thomas most certainly won't go fishing any time soon.
