Thomas and the Bird's Nest is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Thomas has been working extra hard after Percy has gone to The Works. One morning, he wakes up with a strange feeling in his funnel. He tells The Fat Controller about it and a fireman climbs up to discover a bird's nest has been built inside Thomas' funnel.
The news spreads and soon newspapers report on the story. Thomas gets tired of the attention and wants to go out but he cannot without risking damage to the nest. A guard soon comes up with an idea; he has a friend who is a professor on holiday in Sodor and soon arrives. The Stationmaster also finds an old drain pipe which is painted black and placed on an old water tank.
While the birds are away, the professor carefully moves the nest from Thomas' funnel to the drain pipe. The birds return to the nest and Thomas is happy to be able to go out and work again. The eggs in the nest hatch and Thomas watches the baby birds grow and eventually leave but he knows he will never forget them.
