Thomas and the Cows is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Thomas always likes to whistle to the cow in a field by McConnell's farm on his branch line. When he reaches the end of the line, the stationmaster informs him that The Fat Controller needs him back at the main station to pull a special train. Thomas is very excited as Annie and Clarabel are uncoupled and he makes his way back up the line.
Suddenly, his driver shuts off steam and applies the brakes. The cow from McConnell's farm has wandered onto the tracks. Thomas blows his whistle but the cow does not move. The driver and fireman step down from the cab and the cow steps aside. Thomas is ready to continue his journey but his driver informs him the cow needs to be put back in her field.
Once all is sorted, Thomas is very cross and is sure he is too late to pull his special. Thomas becomes even more upset when his special turns out to be three cattle trucks full of cows to be taken back to McConnell's farm!
