Plot[]
One spring day, Thomas is working with his friend, Yong Bao, on the Chinese Railway. As they travel, they see lots of people getting ready to celebrate. Yong Bao says that Thomas is lucky to be in China for the new year. But Thomas is rather puzzled, as New Year is usually a winter festival. They then see villagers carrying gold and red lanterns. Yong Bao explains that they are for the New Year's celebration, and that the best of all the dragon!
This makes Thomas feel worried and ends up feeling even worse when Yong Bao tells him that he can take the dragon to the celebration in the town square. Later, Thomas meets Hong-Mei and tells her that he is taking the dragon to the celebration. Hong-Mei thinks Thomas is very lucky, as the dragon is very big and noisy. But Thomas doesn't feel lucky. He imagines himself being chased by a fire-breathing dragon and doesn't like the sound of it! When Thomas sees Yong Bao again, he tells him that he doesn't want to take the dragon. Yong Bao agrees to take the dragon himself while Thomas takes the lion.
Soon, the day of the celebration arrives, and Thomas picks up some passengers from the station to take them to the town square, but he doesn't see any lions. When he arrives at the town square, Thomas puffs up to Yong Bao and Hong-Mei and apologises for not bringing the lion. But the other engines laughed, as just then, two dancers got off Thomas' train and put on a lion costume. Then, Yong Bao shouts that the dragon is coming, making Thomas worried again.
