Thomas and the Fish is a magazine story.
Plot[]
Mrs. Kyndley has been shopping and travels back to the station near her house in Clarabel. Thomas is happy to have green signals throughout his journey but suddenly, one turns red and he has to stop. Clarabel, not expecting to stop so suddenly, bumps into the back of Annie. This causes Mrs. Kyndley's shopping bags to fall over and the guard helps her pick them up. When they reach the station, Thomas learns of a derailed coal truck up the line. He apologises for the trouble but Mrs. Kyndley knows it was not his fault.
Next day, when Thomas and his coaches arrive for their first train, some passengers hold their noses at a strange smell. Thomas is sure it is not him, but other passengers and the stationmaster agree that it is a fish smell and wonder if Thomas has gone fishing again.
The guard informs them that the smell is coming from Clarabel, who is horrified at the fact. He brings a packet wrapped in newspaper which contains two fish. They were under the seat Mrs. Kyndley sat in yesterday and fell out of her bags. Thomas asks if they can purchase new fish for her to make up for the incident and his driver is proud of him for such a kind-hearted gesture.
