Thomas and the Football is a magazine story.
Plot
One day, while travelling along his branch line with Annie and Clarabel, Thomas sees some children playing football in a field. His driver is concerned that they are too close to the line and the field should be fenced off, but Thomas does not mind.
When Thomas reaches the end of his branch line, he turns around on the loop and soon passes the children again. This time, neither Thomas nor his driver can see their football anywhere. When Thomas looks ahead, he sees the football on the line and one of the boys running to pick it up. Thomas' driver applies his brakes and he stops just in time.
Thomas' driver reprimands the children for playing so close to the line and they leave, knowing that Thomas' driver is right. Thomas still sees the children playing football, however they now play in a field a safe distance from the line.
