- “Fancy believing in a silly old story!”
- ― Harold
Thomas and the Treasure is the twenty-sixth episode of the tenth series.
Plot
The Admiral is coming to open the Sodor Maritime Museum and Thomas is chosen to take him to the opening ceremony. Whilst Thomas is waiting at Brendam Docks for his important passenger, Salty tells the engines about the lost pirate treasure of Sodor, which has not yet been found. However, according to his story, there are three clues to find the treasure: "The Eagle of the Mountains", "The Clouds Not in the Sky" and "The Skull and Crossbones", where the treasure is said to be located. Thomas is very confident in finding the clues, but James and Emily scoff the pirate treasure story as one of Salty's tall tales, making Thomas cross.
Soon, the Admiral has arrived and Thomas collects him. However, instead of going straight to the opening ceremony of the Maritime Museum, Thomas takes a different track to find the lost pirate treasure; although, he is quite confused about the clues. Further down the track and despite passing a sceptic Emily, Thomas finds the side of a cliff shaped as an eagle - it is "The Eagle of the Mountain." Thomas sees the Eagle's beak pointing down another track, which will lead to the second clue. Then, Thomas meets James and tells him about searching for the second clue; like Emily, James is very sceptic.
Taking the other track further inland, Thomas finds "The Clouds Not in the Sky" - they are a reflection of clouds on the lake. Now, Thomas has one more clue to find the treasure. But, all of Thomas' treasure hunting has made him neglect his very important job - taking the Admiral to the new Maritime Museum and Thomas gets caught out by the Fat Controller who arrives aboard Harold. The Fat Controller scolds Thomas for being unreliable and now, Harold (who is just as sceptical as Emily and James about the pirate treasure) is taking the Admiral.
Despite his foolishness, Thomas is still convinced there is a pirate treasure on Sodor. Carrying on his journey, Thomas realises that he is on a section of railway line that he has not tread wheel before. Nevertheless, he follows it into a tunnel and it leads him back to the coast where the new Sodor Maritime Museum has just been opened by the Admiral. Then, Thomas realises that the lost pirate treasure must be close by. Once again, James and Emily try to knock some sense into Thomas' smokebox but, Thomas had followed all of the clues - and the Admiral, who is also very keen in locating the lost pirate treasure, finds "the Skull and Crossbones" close by. Using a shovel, the Admiral finds a wooden chest and inside it, is the pirate treasure, which will be the prize exhibit inside the Maritime Museum. The Fat Controller tells Thomas that finding the pirate treasure has made the opening ceremony all worth while.

Trivia
- Going by production order, this is the twenty-fifth episode of the tenth series.
- This is Salty's last episode with a leading role until the sixteenth series episode, Salty's Surprise.
- A leaked script differs from the final episode in various ways:
- This was originally going to be the eighteenth episode of the tenth series.
- In the Brendam Docks scene, Gordon was to have Emily's role.
- Thomas and Salty both pull up instead of the scene starting with them stationary.
- Gordon and James leave snootily instead of laughing as James and Emily do in the final episode.
- Thomas stops at the fork in the track.
- There was to be a POV shot of Thomas seeing bird in the trees.
- As Emily was not present at the docks, the narrator says that Gordon had told her all about the treasure.
- Thomas does not stop when he sees the eagle. In the final episode, he is only seen moving again in the next scene.
- Henry has James' role at the eagle.
- Thomas is said to circle Black Loch before and after Harold arrives and leaves. A deleted scene of this is used in the music video H Is for Harold.
- It is noted that the Admiral leans out of Thomas' carriage (not specified which one) and stands by Harold.
- Thomas stops circling Black Loch when he notices a hidden overgrown track leading away from it. He has two cut lines of dialogue: "I bet no one's been down this old track for years!" and "Maybe the last clue is down this old line!" None of the narrator's finalised lines are present. In the final episode, it appears that Thomas was simply going forward after finding the clouds clue. Stock footage from Thomas and the Tuba and a deleted scene from the learning segment How Does Emily Get to Cronk Station? are used to smooth over the cut.
- Thomas disappears between two hills instead of into a tunnel.
- When Thomas declares he has found the treasure, the other engines are said to smile dismissively, and Gordon once again has Emily's dialogue. A rare photo shows Gordon with his angry face.
- When Thomas is proven right, the other engines are said to look sheepish.
- Extended stock footage from Seeing the Sights is used.
- This episode marks the last of a few things:
- The last episode written by Marc Seal.
- The last appearance of Harold's Pilots and the Lighthouse Keeper, although the Lighthouse Keeper is only mentioned in the eleventh series episode, Thomas and the Lighthouse.
- Harold's last appearance until The Great Discovery, not counting the Island of Sodor Introduction in the eleventh series and an edited scene appearance in Wash Behind Your Buffers and his last appearance in an episode until the twelfth series episode, Henry Gets It Wrong, this would also mark his last appearance in his physical model form used in an episode, as he would appear in full CGI in the said episode.
- The last episode to feature Thomas' content face. Although it would later be used in The Official BBC Children in Need Medley.
- Edward is not seen with the remaining Steam Team at the grand opening of the maritime museum.
Goofs
- Henry has Gordon's whistle sound at the beginning.
- When Thomas stops to pick up the Admiral, the puffing sound continues after he stops.
- Thomas' eyes are misaligned when the Fat Controller is scolding him. This also applies to James when he said, "Everyone knows it's just a silly old story."
- Emily is smiling when the engines are surprised that the skull and crossbones really exist.
