Thomas the Tank Engine 1, later renamed Thomas and the Guard, is a Norwegian/Swedish/Finnish/Icelandic VHS/DVD featuring eleven first series episodes. In the Netherlands, it was originally released in 2004 under the title ...Taken by the Nose! but later retitled Thomas and Gordon in 2011.
When originally released on DVD in Sweden in 2002, it was titled Thomas and the Guard and Edward, Trevor and the Useful Party, featuring an additional eleven episodes from the third series seen on the Edward, Trevor and the Useful Party Swedish VHS. A later 2005 Swedish DVD was released with only the eleven first series episodes.

- The Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, and Icelandic VHS/DVD releases feature an image from The Trouble with Mud on the front cover.
- The 2004 and 2011 Dutch DVD covers feature a photo from Thomas Comes to Breakfast.
- The 2011 Dutch double DVD front cover features an image from Smoke and Mirrors.
- On the 2002 Swedish DVD, the end credits of each episode are removed, except at the end of the DVD. After Percy, James and the Fruitful Day, a frame from the end of Heroes is shown, then the end credits from Heroes play.
- The 2004 Dutch DVD is the earliest DVD release to feature the restored masters of Thomas episodes, along with The Great Race!, both being released on the same day.
Goofs
- On the back of the 2010 Dutch Moefie Klub! re-release DVD, the description states that there is more than an hour and a half of content. However, the DVD only has a runtime of 55 minutes.
