Toby is Lonely is a magazine story.
Plot[]
One day, Toby is feeling especially lonely up in the quarry. His driver has gone on his lunch break and Henrietta is currently being repainted in her shed. Toby wishes for a chance to visit the main line to see some of his friends.
Toby's driver soon returns and tells him it is time to get back to work in transporting quarry workers. All of a sudden, Toby begins to move as his brakes are not put on properly. Toby increases speed and his driver tries to catch him but it is too late.
Toby is excited to be out on the main line at first, but the fun is soon over when he realises he can not stop! Toby gets nearer and near to the junction and cries for help. The points are not set for the quarry and Toby crashes right off the tracks when he hits them! The signalman raises an alarm and Duck brings the breakdown train to rescue Toby. The Fat Controller inspects the damage while Gordon and Henry complain about being late. Toby now wishes he had stayed in the quarry.

Trivia[]
- The plotline of this story has some similarities to that of the second series episode, The Runaway and the fifth series episode, Busy Going Backwards.
