Too Many Trucks is a magazine story. It continues the story from Rumours and Speculation, which further continues in Daisy and the Tunnel.
Plot[]
The Fat Controller decides to build a new tunnel on the branch line rather than take a long detour around the hill, with a proposal being drawn up by Mr. Walsh.
Terence is called in to help clear the way for the new trackbed, while diggers and drilling machines bore out the tunnel. Edward and Duck assist by taking trucks of earth and stone from the construction site to the yard at the big station.
At the yard, Thomas and Percy are struggling with the sheer number of trucks being brought in with the addition of the trucks of earth and stone from the tunnel. It becomes foggy too, making it difficult for their drivers to see. James arrives to collect his trucks, but before Thomas has time to fetch them, Henry and BoCo arrive to collect their own trucks.
Although they manage to give all of the engines their trucks, they unfortunately give them all the wrong ones. Henry delivers the trucks from the building site instead of the coal, BoCo takes the coal to the harbour instead of the china clay and James dumps the china clay at the disused quarry where the earth should have been dumped.
When the Fat Controller comes to the yard to investigate, he finds out there are too many trucks and Percy pleads to him for help.
