Trevor's Special Task is a magazine story.
Plot[]
One morning, Edward passes the vicarage orchard like usual and sees Trevor who is not feeling happy; he explains how it has been a while since the last fête and he misses his friends that visit during them. Trevor states that Edward is lucky to be able to travel all over the island and meet people. As Edward continues his journey, he tries thinking of a way to cheer Trevor up.
Edward soon passes the canal where he sees one of the narrow boats being pulled by a horse. The skipper of the boat waves to Edward and other people that have come to see them. The skipper states that Old Bessie, the horse, has many friends. Edward is confused at why a horse is needed to pull the boat but it is explained to him that the boat lacks a motor.
The next morning, Edward passes the canal again and notices Old Bessie is nowhere in sight. The skipper explains that she will be living on a farm for the holiday season to get some well earned rest but he unfortunately has no replacement for her. Edward gets an idea and speaks to The Fat Controller who speaks to Jem Cole and, before long, Trevor is polished and pulls the canal boat along for the next several days where he meets plenty of new friends in the process.
