"I'm going to beat that clock!"
― Nia

Tri-and-a-Half-a-Lon is a magazine story illustrated using images from the All Engines Go series.

Plot[]

It is the day before the Tri-and-a-half-a-lon, an obstacle course race that all the engines love. Thomas is busy practising. He zooms around the track and makes it to the finish line before the whistle on the clock blows. All the engines cheer and Kana tells Thomas that he will do great at the Tri-and-a-half-a-lon.

Next up to practise is Nia. She zooms around the track as fast as she can, but she doesn't manage to beat the clock. Nia is very disappointed. Thomas tries to cheer her up by saying her run was still great, but to no avail.

Nia wants to carry on practising so she can finish faster, so Sandy and Carly offer to be her coaches. With their help, Nia trains harder than ever. She zooms around Sodor and even to the top of Lookout Mountain, trying to get faster and faster. Nia is training so hard that her wheels start overheating. Sandy and Carly urge her to take a break, but Nia won't rest; she wants to train all through the night!

On the day of the Tri-and-a-half-a-lon, Nia is very tired, but still determined to beat the clock. She lines up at the starting line and, with a wave of Sandy's flag, Nia is off in a flash. Even though she's tired, Nia tries her hardest to zoom around the course as fast as possible. She makes it across the finish line just before the whistle blows. After her whole training experience, Nia decides that, next time, she will focus less on the whistle and more on the fun.
