Alysia[]
Alysia is a lighterage motor tug with an open-wheelhouse that resides at Brendam Docks.
Technical Details[]
Basis[]
Alysia is based on a tugboat kit by Caldercraft called Riverman, designed by Frank Hinchcliffe. It does not appear to be based on any particular real life example, but rather is representative of typical Thames river tugs, specifically Thames lighterage motor tugs from the 1950s-60s designed for lighterage and to haul strings of barges under bridges with low profile superstructures to reach the wharves up-river from London Bridge.[1]
Livery[]
Alysia has a black and red hull with a white line separating the two colours, a cream superstructure, a brown wheelhouse and a red funnel with a black top.
Appearances[]
Trivia[]
- Alysia's livery is identical to that of Lucinda. As the two are both shown to be stationed at Brendam Docks, it is likely they are owned by the same company.
Twin-Screw Harbour Tugs[]
Several Twin-Screw Harbour Tugs have appeared at Brendam Docks, Dakar Docks, Knapford Harbour and the Vicarstown Bridge.
Technical Details[]
Basis[]
These tugs are based on the twin-screw harbour tugboat named Imara, built in 1931 by Fleming and Ferguson, Paisley, to work for the Tanganyika Railway Company at Dar es Salaam Docks in Tanzania. It was later renamed Perseverance when entering Royal Naval service in 1932. It was sold to the British Iron and Steel Corporation in 1958 and was scrapped in 1960. Lucinda shares the same basis.
Livery[]
In the CGI Series, these tugs have a black and red hull with a white lining separating the two colours, a cream superstructure, and a red funnel with a black top. This livery is identical to that of Lucinda and Alysia.
In the My Thomas Story Library books, these tugs have a white and red hull with gold lining separating the two colours, a white superstructure, and a red funnel with a black top. In the Really Useful Stories books, one of these tugs has a black, green and red hull, a green superstructure, cream wheelhouse and upper deck, and a black and red funnel with black and red rings in the center.

- ― Diesel after pulling the boat
The Tugboat is a harbour tug that is often used to carry a shipment of coal for the North Western Railway. It only appeared in the magazines.
On a stormy night, the rope which attached the tugboat to the pier snapped and it broke away from its mooring. As the tugboat began to drift out to sea, the skipper called out that he could not drive it back to the harbour edge due to a broken engine. Luckily, Diesel's driver and the harbour stationmaster made a plan and tied a rope to Diesel's front coupling and the boat. Diesel revved his engine and pulled the tugboat safely back to the harbour edge, where it was secured to wait for its engine to be repaired.
