Twelve Happy Engines was a related booklet of The Railway Series published by Nestlé in conjunction with Kaye & Ward. Pictures supplied from Nestlé chocolate wrappers were meant to be cut out and stuck into the booklet.
In the prologue, Awdry explains how The Railway Series came into creation, and how Thomas was introduced into the second book. There is also brief character profiles on Edward, Henry, Thomas, Toby, Douglas, Daisy, Skarloey, Sir Handel, Duncan, Bill, Bert and Culdee.
