Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, formerly known as Universal Studios Home Entertainment, also known as Universal, began distributing Thomas & Friends videos in North America in September 2014 with Tale of the Brave, after taking over from Lionsgate. Like with Lionsgate, they re-released several Anchor Bay and Fox titles as well as many of Lionsgate titles.

  • They also released Big Idea's The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: a VeggieTales Movie, which was animated by Arc Productions, now called Jam Filled Toronto. Interestingly, Big Idea's VeggieTales videos were distributed by HiT Entertainment from 2001 to 2002 and by Universal since 2018.
  • On several of their digital and Blu-ray releases of Thomas DVDs and specials, the audio is at a lower pitch, likely due to conversion from PAL to NTSC speed.
  • They are the final company to produce physical home media releases of Thomas & Friends in the US as of 2020, with the 10-Movie Birthday Collection being their final release to date. However, NCircle Entertainment started releasing DVDs for Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go! since December 2021.
  • On most re-releases of the older Thomas & Friends DVDs, the Web Fun feature was removed due to the drastic changes to the official website in 2015.
  • Universal Studios Florida was opened to the public on the same day that the American home video releases of Thomas & Friends was launched with Thomas Gets Tricked and James Learns a Lesson.
