An upcoming Thomas & Friends directed by Marc Forster, is currently being worked on for Mattel Films. The film will be a "four-quadrant family adventure that blends live-action and animation."

According to Forster, "Thomas has been a personal favorite of mine since childhood... I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Robbie and the entire team at Mattel, and embarking on this beautiful journey with such a timeless property."

As of March 2024, the film is still in-production.

Plot

Executive producer Robbie Brenner has stated that Thomas' story in the film will be told in a "modern and unexpected way."

• This marks the second theatrical film in the franchise to be produced, the first being the 2000 film, Thomas and the Magic Railroad. This film would have been the third theatrical film in the franchise had The Adventures of Thomas not been cancelled.
