Background Information[]

Television Series[]

Upper Brendam is a fictional station on the south coast of the Island of Sodor created by Britt Allcroft and David Mitton. It serves as an intermediate station on the Brendam Branch Line.

The station only appeared in the second series episodes Bertie's Chase and The Runaway, which both first aired in 1986. The yard appeared in the third series episodes One Good Turn, Tender Engines and Escape.

Behind the Scenes[]

Gauge 1 model[]

Upper Brendam was originally built for the second series. The station was never named on-screen, however its name was later revealed from behind the scenes materials. At some point after Thomas and the Magic Railroad, a station name sign was made for Upper Brendam, however it ultimately went unused as the station never appeared again. The sign is now owned by Twitter user TomsProps.[1]

As seen in ruler reference images from the eighth series, the station building was later modified during restoration:

  • A new front door with no window replaced the original.
  • The side door was also replaced with a new door, which lacks the plank lines and features a silver doorknob.
  • The back door gains a window, similar to the original front door.
  • The cornerstones on the station building were given a lighter colour to the rest of the building.

The station building from Upper Brendam was reused for a number of other sets:

In day 2 of 2022 the station would be displayed at the second Clearwater Event alongside Harold's original model and a replica of Thomas wearing a screen used tired face.
