About me

Hello, my name is Noah Tammen, I'm a German actor and Thomas fan since early childhood. I mainly take care of the German Voice Actors or DVDs/VHS/CDs for this wiki.

I am a German fan that obviously grew up with Thomas, but lost interest around the time season 18 was released in English. However, apparently the period between me losing interest and getting it back was not that long after all as I was catching up with the series by the time season 19 and the first trailers for Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure were released.

During the time of me not being interested in Thomas, I saw my little brother one time when he was watching the ending of Tale of the Brave on television. Being in the "i'M tOo OlD fOr ThIs BaBy SHoW"-mood, I tried to criticise what I saw, but I honestly could not find anything.

Anyway, I was back into Thomas and met a lot of people. In fact, I am kind of responsible for many of the German Thomas fans getting together.

Nowadays, I still catch up with the latest installments and watch older episodes or movies every once in a while. Though, I am planning on watching the whole show all over again from start to finish.

I have a YouTube-channel where I do my own series with my model railway. As a kid, I used to have nearly everything of Wooden Railway, but then there was a time when neither me nor my brothers cared about them, so we sold them. Then, in 2015, I discovered Train Tsar Fun on YouTube and he inspiried me to start a model railway, too. So, for christmas, I got a Märklin-set, I replaced it later with Bachmann and Hornby and on the 29th December 2015, the first episode of my series was released.

I am currently working on my season 6-finale. In all, my series takes place in a seperate universe and is a bit darker and maybe more mature than the tv-series (at least starting with the season 3 finale). I use a lot of personal experiences for stories and change some of the characters' personalities. Most notably ones such as James, Hugo or Neville. There is also a wiki to my series, but it is German of course:

I did once try to make an English dub of my show, but it is not really fun work to me. However, I am thinking of adding subtitles to translate the episodes that way.

I allow you to edit my profile page to correct grammar/spelling mistakes, but no more.

Pages I created

I used to really critisise the classic series and tried to convince myself to prefer the CGI-series. I guess, I wanted attention by hating on popular things and liking less-popular stuff. It is a little bit embarrassing but I am not trying to pretend it never happened.

I have watched the whole show in 2017/18 and reviewed each season and special on my German YouTube channel. I did do ranking list which you can see below, however, as for now, I would not say that I do have favourites. It depends on my mood whether I would rather watch some season 4 or a bit of season 18. You could say that my opinions are constantly chaning, if you really wanted a reason. Nontheless, if I absolutely had to do rankings, this is what they would look like:

I was still in this "classic series: overrated; CGI series: superior"-mood when I started these lists

Favourite Seasons

Classic Series:

  1. Season 5 (Just amazing!)
  2. Season 7 (A perfect finale for the era!)
  3. Season 3 (Very beautiful)
  4. Season 6 (I'm not really sure about this one, I think, I'd rank it here)
  5. Season 2 (This was good, such an improvement from season 1)
  6. Season 4 (The bad structure, too late episodes and a bad German translation made this season a dissappointment to me)
  7. Season 1 (Well, I'm not very impressed by it, but we all have to start somewhere)

New Series:

  1. Season 11 (There were no really bad episodes but many good morals and relatable characters)
  2. Season 9 (Though a few episodes like Rheneas and the Dinosaur or Thomas and the Birthday Picnic are rather weak, in all, the season was slightly better than season 8 in my opinion)
  3. Season 8 (Pretty amazing, to be honest...)
  4. Season 10 (It did had good episodes, particulary my back then favourite episode Duncan Drops a Clanger, but there ware also a lot of weak ones...)
  5. Season 12 (Terrible... I have no reason to like it, there were no really reasons for my to like it...)

Nitrogen CGI Series

  1. Season 16 (I am quite surprised, how good this season was.. I mean, no rhyming and not many bad episodes.. I have to say, the first season since 11, that I find pretty good.)
  2. Season 15 (The Nitrogen/Miller seasons were all a bit better than the previous one, if you ask me)
  3. Season 14 (Not very different than 13, but with a better character selection, animation and such things)
  4. Season 13 (Not really good.. better than season 12, though)

  1. Season 20 (The great selection of characters, the story-telling, the music, everything was amazing)
  2. Season 19 (I was worried, but I must say: This is where the highlight of the show is really beginning)
  3. Season 21 (It was a transition: It had the great aspects of the Brenner-era, it had the bad aspects from BWBA)
  4. Season 18 (Many endings were terrible, but there was a great selection of characters and story ideas)
  5. Season 17 (Not perfect, but very good nontheless)

  1. Tale of the Brave (I originally had it lower on the list with SLofLT being here, but when I think about it, TotB is actually the special I would show to someone who does not know a lot about Thomas; The fan service is on a level that you do not need to understand it, it is not ridiculously over-the-top and just beautiful on so many levels without risking too much)
  2. Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure (I was going to rank it lower because the German dub is terrible (Duck, the locomotive from America) but that wouldn't be really fair and I don't think I need to explain why the movie is awesome)
  3. Blue Mountain Mystery (Where do I start... Just like the Great Discovery, everything is just amazing, particually the German translation)
  4. Journey Beyond Sodor (Personally, I love it but the fact that it splitted the Thomas Community in half makes me kind of wanting to dislike it)
  1. The Great Discovery (Everything's amazing, would have been the perfect finale for the model era, if season 12 was not there...)
  2. The Great Race (Good aspects, bad aspects... in all, it was alright)
  3. King of the Railway (Just a very good introduction into the new era)
  4. The Adventure Begins (It was not bad at all, it was a perfect celebration for the anniversary. It just was not that special for me personaly)
  5. Misty Island Rescue (I can overlook all the logical issues and just focus on the good things, like the awesome music)
  6. Hero of the Rails (A great introduction into the CGI-series)
  7. Calling All Engines! (Actually, I have no reason to dislike it...)
  8. Day of the Diesels (The first half is alright, but then, it just goes way to ridiculous)
  9. Thomas and the Magic Railroad (Alright for a movie, terrible for a Thomas movie, it doesn't make any sense at all!)

Big World! Big Adventures! is such a mixed bag, I really cannot compare it to the other movies. See below for more info.

Thoughts on BWBA so far

I liked the movie. I agree that it has not much to do with Thomas but the lack of narration and some rather emotional elements like Sometimes You Make A Friend are simply beautiful. Of course there are some issues like pacing or overused chliches and forced elements, but in all I enjoyed it. As for season 22: The movie was definitly better. There are so many things that do not make sense: Why does Thomas now travel the world? Why would he spend times like christmas so far away from Sodor? Who is doing his jobs on Sodor? When does it all take place? I liked several episodes, especially the ones that take place in Australia (with the exception of Kangaroo Christmas) but I think I can speak for all of us if I say, that BWBA is not as bad as we all thought, but everything would have been a thousand times better, if the show would have just kept it's standards after season 20.

Characters I like in particular

Unpopular opinions

  • I really used to dislike season 4 (season 1, too, but because of reasons stated above). However, after re-watching a quarter of the season again after Michael Angelis' passing, I realised that seasons 1 and 4 may be the best seasons in terms of writing: Almost all of the episodes actually do follow each other directly which has kind of become a major point for me to decide whether I think a show is well written or not. If an episode is just a short story that ends after 5 minutes, that is fine, too, but grander stories that span over multiple episodes are definitly more interesting. And it only gets better when the whole show (or season) tells one big story that involves some smaller ones, if you know what I mean.
    • Reasons I used to dislike season 4 (even though some of them still are slight issues for me):
      • Too much narrow gauge at once
      • Episodes like Henry and the Elephant, Bulls Eyes, Paint Pots and Queens or Toad Stands By messing up the continuity.
      • Silly German translation errors like "Toby, the railcar".
      • Smudger's punishment was a bit hard and Bulstrode did not really do anything (he was bothering the trucks, but the accident in Special Atttraction was not his fault; even if Bulstrode would have been nice, but the accident still had happend, he would have been punished for nothing).
  • I think Michael Brandon and Pierce Brosnan were great narrators.
  • Even though I am really interested in the director's cut of Magic Railroad, I do not think it would have been a lot better. Of course better, but still not necessarily good.
  • I do not really like the classic Runaway Theme. Whenever I have a runaway in my own series, I would use some video game boss music instead.
  • I also never liked The Island Song.
  • To me, it seems like non-Thomas fans but just people who sometimes watch the show only care about whether the episodes are filmed or animated. Because I always see comments such as "CGI is bad, the models were really great". The thing is, these comments are also on some new series episodes and Brenner-era ones. What I mean is: To those people, Thomas' Frosty Friend is the same as Special Funnel while they see Percy's Lucky Day as as bad as Early Bird. But the point is that I do not knot how exactly to feel about this. On one hand, it is frustrating that these people do not even give the Brenner-episodes a chance by watching them but still insult them whenever they can, but on the other hand, it seems to be that the writing is not what makes these people watch Thomas but the relaxing atmosphere of actual model trains just driving along. Of course, I would still prefer not to be confronted with "the models were better"-comments with no further elaboration and with no need for it in the first place, but I am defenitly understanding.

Other Shows/Movies that I watch/like

The scroll box below is outdated. I have created an Google Drive-document where I list all the other things I watch. I apologise in advance that I have listed some movies/shows with only their German title:

  • Victorious
  • Sam & Cat
  • Big Time Rush

I really like musicals, because I am on a Drama School where we are performing a musical every year.

Examples of Musical Movies I like:

  • Grease
  • Hairspray
  • Mamma Mia
    • Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again
  • The Greatest Showman
  • Chicago

  • Beat It in the Hannover Swiss Life Hall, February 2020
  • Flashdance in the Hannover Swiss Life Hall, Februery 2020

Disney/Pixar Movies: I never really watched them alot and I only started getting interested in them around 2018. So far, I have seen:

  • The Lion King (both 1994 and 2019; I like both of them with none being better than the other. Both have strengths and weaknesses compared to each other)
    • The Lion King II: Simba's Pride (So underappreciated)
    • The Lion King 1 1/2: Hakuna Matata
  • Aladdin (both 1992 and 2019; I actually prefer the remake, which doesn't mean I dislike the original)
  • Tarzan
  • Mulan
  • Hercules
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame
  • Beauty and the Beast (both versions)
  • Dinosaur
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
  • Toy Story

I might have seen a couple of others when I was very young, but these are the ones I have watched recently. Now, I've got Disney+ and nothing is stopping me from catching up.

And I also like dinosaur movies and documentaries. I like dinosaurs. If you're wondering, my favourite dinosaur is the Majungasaurus.

Examples of Dinosaur Movies/Documentaries I like:

  • All of the Jurassic Park/World Movies
  • BBC's Walking With-Series (Including things like Chased by Dinosaurs or Prehistoric Park)
  • Dinosaur Planet
  • When Dinosaurs Roamed America
  • The Land Before Time-Movies
  • Dino King/Speckles the Tarbosaurus (or whatever the English title is)

Other movies that I like:

  • Pitch Perfect-Trilogy
  • Heathers
  • Carrie (2013)
  • Scott Pilgrim vs the World
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower
  • Bohemian Rhapsody

Books that I've either read voluntary or because school made me read them and I ended up enjoying them. I had to read more books because of school, but I am not going to list all of them. I just recently learned how much fun reading is when I am not forced to read something that I don't care about in a short amount of time.

My H0 Scale Collection:

I used to have all models by Märklin (except the fuel tanker), but I sold it to buy Bachmann and Hornby. However, I got six tar and six milk tankers from Märklin again as well as a van that has my name on it from the Miniatur-Wunderland.

  • A Toad brakevan
  • A GWR 45xx Small Prairie with TrackMaster Push Along Rebecca's face, turned into an original character; Rachel.

I have also build a Custom Hugo and I had a Bachmann and a Hornby Percy and combined the two (Wheels, Chassis, Whistles and Bufferbeams from the Bachmann version, the rest from the Hornby version).

  • Custom Neville; I put a wooden Neville's face ona Hornby Q1 and changed the number.
  • Mallard (Modified; I put a Wooden Railway Spencer's Face on it).
  • A West Country Class with Plarail Belle's face, for another original character; Amber.
  • Breakdown Train.

Other Models

  • I used parts from my old Bachmann Thomas for Hugo, the body has been turned into my original character Taylor, the ghost engine.
  • I have a German DR class 18/S 3/6, gave her Wooden Railway Stremlined Emily's face and made Melina, a custom character.
  • I am currently building a Custom Frieda.

Wooden Railway

Take Along

I also have "Holiday Thomas and Percy", with Santa hats and christmas decorations. I am not sure wether they are Take Along or Take-n-Play, I could not find pictures of them in either gallery in the wikia.
