Vans are used for transporting covered goods. Several vans have been seen on the Mid Sodor and Skarloey Railways in The Railway Series.
Skarloey Vans[]
These vans are used on the Skarloey Railway. They are often used for delivering supplies to the Ministry of Defense base at Skarloey Slate Quarry.
In 1960, George crashed into a train of these vans while Sir Handel was pulling them, but they were thankfully empty at the time.

Mid Sodor Vans[]
These vans were used on the Mid Sodor Railway. They often comprised part of the Horse and Cart.
Technical Details[]
Basis[]
Three Mid Sodor vans appear on Awdry's OO9 scale Mid Sodor layout. Two of these vans (one grey, one blue) were modified from Egger-Bahn 2201/2202 box vans, which were also used by Awdry to create his Skarloey Railway condition model of Cora. Another of the vans was built from a Parkside Dundas DM3P kit, which is of a freelance design.
Liveries[]
On Awdry's OO9 scale Mid Sodor layout, two of these vans were painted Mid Sodor Railway light blue with the initials "M S" on their sides in red. A third van was painted grey with the initials "M S" on its sides in white.
