During the Second World War, two diesel locomotives were loaned to the Skarloey Railway by the War Department. They are first mentioned in the Rev W. Awdry's 1972 lecture, Narrow Gauge Rails in Sodor and are later indirectly referenced in The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways.
Biography[]
In 1939, two diesel locomotives were lent on lease to the Skarloey Railway, to supplement the ageing Skarloey and Rheneas for the extra timber and explosives traffic. Following the end of the war in 1945, both diesels left the railway.[1]
Technical Details[]
Basis[]
The basis of the two diesels is currently unknown.
Livery[]
It is currently unknown what livery the diesels would have been painted in, however given they were owned by the War Department it is likely that they would have been painted either black, grey or dark green.
