Thomas the Tank Engine Wiki
The Railway Series

The Workshop Engines were tank engines who lived in the Workshop with Percy before he was brought to the Island of Sodor.

Biography[]

After Thomas left to run his branch line, The Fat Controller was in desperate need of another tank engine. Eventually, he went to a workshop on the Mainland, where they showed him a range of tank engines of various shapes and sizes.

Some of these engines were described as looking happy, some sad, and some as looking at the Fat Controller anxiously hoping he would choose them. He finally chose a small green saddle tank engine, whom he would name Percy. The first engine looked sad, the second engine look shocked, the third engine was angry, and the fourth engine was disappointed when Percy was chosen. Later on, Percy would mention to Edward that the engines at the workshop would have to "wheesh" loudly to make themselves heard.

Technical Details[]

Basis[]

The four engines were likely not intended to be based on any particular locomotives, though in illustrations the second bears a resemblance to Thomas and the third to Gordon.

Livery[]

The livery of the first engine is obscured by Percy. The second engine is painted blue with red lining. The third engine is painted red with black lining. Finally, the fourth engine is painted light green with dark green lining. All have black wheels.
